Nothing like the feeling of licking a nice clean window! How cute is this?

A good reason to have clean windows, and one of the many reason windows need cleaning.

    Gutter Downspout Screens: Easy Fix.

I’m a big fan of these inexpensive downspout screens.  Simply put, they work.

If you’ve ever priced gutter guards, gutter caps or whatever they might be called, I’m sure you were shocked at the cost.  I have seen many gutters that have had gutter guards on them and they were full of debris.  Getting that debris out is a pain.

With these downspout screens the gutters drain as they should.  Yep, the gutters still need to be cleaned but that’s not a bad thing.  Getting up and cleaning the gutters also is a great time to inspect the roof and make sure the gutter is still attached properly.  Some things are just not meant to set it and forget it.

Lessons learned through mistakes; when innovation goes bad.

“Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it’s a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.” – Al Franken, “Oh, the things I Know”, 2002.

I strive to deliver consistently great service, and deliver a product that exceeds expectations. Part of the process is always looking for new innovative ways to improve on the current processes and procedures. Improve the product and improve profits, its good business right? The problem is, even though a new idea might pencil out fantastic, it doesn’t work and could cost a lot of wasted time in the process.

But is it really wasted? No, it’s invested. It’s only wasted if nothing is learned.

Over the years, some of the best and most innovative ideas I’ve implemented have resulted from some of the most idiotic ideas. Defining what the desired end result is and focusing on the best way to achieve it and not on how bad the idea is, is really a fun process and amazing what is produced through such an exercise.

I have implemented some not-so-good ideas though. The ideas wasted time, money and caused some embarrassment. It’s not something you ever set out to do, but there it is and it happens to a lot of people who are not satisfied with the status quo. Some people want to walk away from it, ignore it. Others dissect it, do a root cause analysis and become intimate with every detail of the process.

I think there is a good middle road here. Really take a good look at what occurred, analyze it and find some solid solutions. Too much analyzing and nothing gets done, almost the same as walking away from it. Find solutions!

Some questions I often use to evaluate an idea are:

    • Safety: does it increase, have no effect or decrease safety?
    • Time: does it increase, decrease or have no effect?
    • Money: increase, stay the same or cost more?
    • Popular: will employees want to do this? Eventually or never?

    Cats & Windows

Cats can really do a number on clean windows.  Little nose prints, licking the window, smashing bugs.  It can be very entertaining and equally frustrating if you’re trying to keep the windows clean.

Every morning I’m greeted by our cat, “Taz”, who is sitting on the outside ledge of our kitchen window.  He really could care less if he messes up the window, his only motive for sitting there is to let us know it is time for us to open the door and let him in to eat.

The kitchen window gets dirty the fastest in our house.  Lot’s of water splashing from use on the inside, and the cat putting his marks on the outside.

Found some videos on YouTube, and made this quick video.  I think it’s purrr-fect.

Guest Prep Timeline: Cleaning up for Guests

    Getting the House Organized, Cleaning

Cleaning the entire house can be an overwhelming activity.  I really try and get it all done in one day, scratch that…one hour.  It doesn’t work.

My wife on the other hand seems to do a little here and there, and it all gets done.  This weekend she found this article in Country Living on Guest Prep Timeline.  The article really lays out a process to get the house cleaned and ready for guests, it even had a checklist to print out.

One suggestion to add to the checklist on the 1st week is:  Contact Beckon Call and schedule window cleaning.  Phone : 541.740.0056

You want clean windows.  We can help.  One phone call, get a free estimate and get clean windows.  It is that simple.

Installing Christmas Lights, Keep it Safe!

Getting into the Christmas spirit?  Remember if you are going to install Christmas lights on your house, keep it safe!

We’re on ladders all the time, and I can ensure you that there is no warning when a ladder is going to shift or your feet slip.  It would be nice if a voice from the sky suddenly said “The ladder is going to slide in 10, 9, 8…”  But be assured that never happens, one second all is good and the next gravity is demonstrating its power.

Here are some tips on a previous post on ladder safety, http://www.beckoncallservices.com/ladder-safety-tips/

Stay safe, and most definitely keep your feet on the ground if you’re intoxicated.

Thanksgiving Dinner: getting the house ready

Clean windows for ThanksgivingThere are many reasons why our clients have their Windows cleaned. The one reason that makes me chuckle is hearing “the in-laws are coming”. Well, ’tis the season for having guests over, including the in-laws.

Our house always gets a little cleaner this time of year. Like most people, we spend a lot more time inside where it is warm and enjoy the beautiful cold vistas of outside through our windows.

I get asked a lot if this is a good time of the year to clean windows. The answer, yes! The dust, pollen and the dirty little bugs have for the most part taken a winter siesta. The blackberry laced birdy tirdy season has passed. This is a great time of the year to get the windows cleaned!

So why don’t more people have their windows cleaned this time of year? Possibly because it’s cold, and for DIYers it’s something that does not usually make it to the high priority list. Really, what would you rather do? Something in the warmth of your home or outside where it is wet and cold? For a job like this, call a professional. (seriously do it now)

That’s where Beckon Call comes in. We not only clean in any kind of weather, we enjoy doing it. The coldest we’ve cleaned in was 17 degrees. But there are window cleaners out there in colder environments that are cleaning in much colder weather. High tech clothing and a dash of craziness make it a whole lot easier.

So if you’re worried about getting the house cleaned for the holiday season, and window cleaning is on the list, contact Beckon Call! We will give you a free estimate, and in no time you will have clean windows. It really is that simple.

We have gift certificates, and they make awesome presents! Contact us for details.

Screen Cleaning: Clean windows need clean screens.

When you take a shower, you don’t put dirty clothes back on.  It is basically the same concept with clean windows:  If the windows are clean, dirty screens shouldn’t be put back on.

Beckon Call is just as serious about screen cleaning as we are with window cleaning.  Our 5-Step process leaves the screens incredibly clean.  In fact, we are confident the only way to get a screen cleaner is to buy a new one.  The best part?  It is included with our basic service.

Here’s a short video that shows the Beckon Call 5-Step process:

Is Window Cleaning Charged by the Hour or the Job?

Question: How much is window cleaning?

“Window cleaning, is it charged by the hour or by the job?”  That is a question we’re often asked, and the answer is…

Beckon Call charges by the job for almost all jobs we do.  I feel there is a few excellent reasons for this:

    • You as a customer know what the job is going to cost prior to start, and any variations that might arise are explained before.
    • In my experience, charging by the job promotes efficiency and increases quality.
    • No need for you to monitor the pace of the work, you can simply check the finished product.
    • Charging by the job promotes the sense of urgency and encourages positive work behavior.

At Beckon Call we are constantly looking for ways to improve our effectiveness and efficiency when cleaning windows, pressure washing, cleaning gutters or other miscellaneous jobs we provide to our customers.

Our goal is to provide the highest level of service with the least amount of disruption to your schedule.

There are many ways to perform any given task, it is our goal at Beckon Call to find the BEST WAY to do each one we do.  The result is unparallelled quality for our customers and a healthy business that will be around for years to come.
